It is not clear whether Kalina Manoylov got approval from the E-i-C, and under what circumstance the E-i-C can approve the guest editor to publish more than one articles on their special issue. The 5GH team is waiting reply from Kalina Manoylov and Elsevier
Concerns are raised that XIN guest-edited the special issue to promote the publication from IARRP. But it may be another reason: XIN was not able to recruit enough articles, so that her friends in IARRP "helped" her. Or it may be other reasons we do not know yet. But the scientific community wants an answer to this question.
Recently, the 5GH team found another case that the guest editor for an Elsevier special issue violated the rules from the publisher.
In 2024 (up to July 20th), the international academic publisher Elsevier has published 77 articles with author(s) from secondary school. Most of them (74) were form China, the remaining 3 were from the United States.
There seem to be more problematic special issues by XIN
The current and the previous investigations suggest abnormal publication records from Chinese secondary school students, compared to their counterparts from the other part of the globe. However, it is hard to say "we win".
YAN Yuying, a professor affiliated to both the University of Nottingham, UK, and the University of Nottingham Ningbo China, earned 11 authorships in 2024, with his contribution of “Writing – review & editing”. An investigation by the 5GH team reveals.

Up to now (2024-08-13), 257 articles with author(s) from King Saud University (KSU) and published before August 10th, 2024, have been retracted. This number ranks first among the Saudi universities which are named after the kings, followed by King Abdulaziz University (167) and King Khalid University (106).
