Marco Cantonati and Martyn G. Kelly Published Two Articles on His Special Issue, Against the Policy from Elsevier

NOTE: We are sorry for the mistake in the previous version stating Kalina M. Manoylov acted against the policy from the publisher Elsevier. Indeed, the persons who acted against policy is Marco Cantonati and Martyn G. Kelly. We apologize again to Kalina M. Manoylov for our mistake.

Recently, the 5GH team found that Marco Cantonati and Martyn G. Kelly published two articles on the special issue "Assessment and biomonitoring of inland waters" on the journal "Science of The Total Environment", a special issue that they guest-edited.

This is against the policy from the publisher Elsevier, who states that guest editor can publishes maximumly one article on their special issue, unless the guest editor is approved by the editor in chief (E-i-C) to publish more.

It is not clear whether Marco Cantonati and Martyn G. Kelly got approval from the E-i-C, and under what circumstance the E-i-C can approve the guest editor to publish more than one articles on their special issue. The 5GH team is waiting reply from the editors and Elsevier.

7 of 23 Articles in a Elsevier Special Issue Came from a Same Institution in China

Concerns are raised that XIN guest-edited the special issue to promote the publication from IARRP. But it may be another reason: XIN was not able to recruit enough articles, so that her friends in IARRP "helped" her. Or it may be other reasons we do not know yet. But the scientific community wants an answer to this question.
