Conflict of Interest on Special Issue "Cleaner Production for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals"

Recently, the 5GH team found that Biagio F. Giannetti with Universidade Paulista (Brazil) and Beijing Normal University (China) took advantage of his role as guest editor to publish articles on the special issue "Cleaner Production for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals" on the journal "Journal of Cleaner Production".

Last updated on July 12th, 2020, this special issue published 42 articles, 5 of which were coauthored by Biagio F. Giannetti. This is against the policy from the publisher Elsevier, allowing the guest editors to publish maximum one article on their special issue.

Additionally, 2 articles [1-2] coauthored by Biagio F. Giannetti were handled/edited by CecĂlia Maria Almeida, the editor in chief of the journal. Because Giannetti and Almeida frequently co-author with each other, including on article [3] on the same special issue, concerns are raised about the conflict of interest on these two articles.

7 of 23 Articles in a Elsevier Special Issue Came from a Same Institution in China

Concerns are raised that XIN guest-edited the special issue to promote the publication from IARRP. But it may be another reason: XIN was not able to recruit enough articles, so that her friends in IARRP "helped" her. Or it may be other reasons we do not know yet. But the scientific community wants an answer to this question.

Author-Editor Conflict on Science of the Total Environment: Cases of the GAO-LI-WANG-AHMED Group

We report cases of author-editor conflict on Science of the Total Environment. Two authors (GAO Li and LI Xuan) and two editors (WANG Qilin and Warish AHMED) were involved in these cases, which raise concerns about the quality, reliability and publication ethics of the journal and the papers published on it. We call for publisher’s investigations on these and any further papers.
