2 Animal Studies on ACS Omega Lack Ethical Approval Disclosure

Recently, the 5GH team found that 2 animal studies [1-2] on ACS Omega, all came from mainland China, lacked ethical approval disclosure.

When conducting an investigation on papers from other researchers, the team found that some animal studies on Chemistry/Material/Physics journals, including those of ACS, lack ethical approval disclosure. In order to figure out how large the number of such studies, the team checked papers published on ACS Omega in 2024. 6 issues of the journal were checked, and the 2 studies were identified.

Besides, the team also found 6 studies claimed ethical approval without addressing the registered number(s). It is not clear whether ACS Omega asked the authors for details about the ethical approval.

Considering poor animal management in some nations, lack of transparency in ethical approval disclosure (most review boards/committees in China do not have an official website for public or independent organizations to check the approval), the 5GH team asks the academic publishers not only require the detailed information, but also request authors to post the original copy of the approval in supplementary materials.

Abnormal Patterns in HAO Dingjun's Papers

Up to now, the 5GH team has no intention of making specific accusations against the above papers. However, considering the large number of the publications that may be involved in academic misconduct, the 5GH team calls for the participation from more institutions and individuals in order to promote the investigation faster.

Massive Retraction in Bioengineered

From late January to recently, Bioengineered retracted 54 papers, which were published from late 2021 to early 2022 by Chinese authors. The journal stated in the Statement of Retraction that this action was due to concerns about publication integrity and the compliance with ethical policies for human research.

Post-Publication Peer Review on 10.1186/s12877-023-03729-0

The article provides the information about the hospitalization costs for elderly (over 65 years old) trauma patients in Baotou, between January 2017 and March 2022. These data is of great interest not only to the scientific community but also to the policy markers, who are leading the reform of the health system. However, the communities may be better informed if the authors could further address the following issues
